Reflections on the Dawn of Consciousness
Reflections on the Dawn of Consciousness: Julian Jaynes's Bicameral Mind Theory Revisited
Kuijsten Why are gods and idols ubiquitous throughout the ancient world? What is the relationship of consciousness and language? How is it that oracles came to influence entire nations such as Greece? If consciousness arose far back in human evolution, how can it so easily be altered in hypnosis and "possession"? Is modern schizophrenia a vestige of an earlier mentality? These are just some of the difficult questions addressed by Julian Jaynes's influential and controversial theory of the origin of subjective consciousness or the "modern mind." This book includes an in-depth biography of Julian Jaynes, essays by Jaynes, and the discussion and analysis of Jaynes's theory from a variety of perspectives such as clinical psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, anthropology, linguistics, and ancient history.

Is There Life After Death?
Is There Life After Death?
Peake Can there ever be a rationally satisfying and scientifically based explanation as to what happens to consciousness at the point of death? Anthony Peake believes that there can be and that his explanation in no way invalidates long held religious beliefs about life after death.
The way in which we "Cheat The Ferryman" as he like to term his theory, lies deep within the structures of the brain itself - an area where thought itself touches upon the very building blocks of reality.

The End of Roman Britain
The End of Roman Britain
E. Jones Britain was never as thoroughly conquered as traditional historians would have us believe, according to Professor Michael E. Jones. To explain why this was true, Professor Jones offers a lucid and thorough analysis of the economic, social, military, and environmental problems that contributed to the failure of the Romans. Jones disputes the theory that the Anglo-Saxon invasions were the determining agent in the failure of Romanitas.

The Egypt Code
The Egypt Code
Bauval The Orion Mystery published in 1994, introduced the world to a highly original, and now internationally famous, star-correlation theory about the Giza Pyramids in Egypt, and sent a huge shock-wave of controversy throughout the scientific community, the effects of which are still felt today. The Egypt Code not only develops this pyramid-stars correlation, but also reveals an amazing "Grand Unified Plan", which involves the wonderful temple of Upper Egypt. The Egypt Code is unlike any other book before it and covers the whole of Egypt's ancient civilization in a manner never before attempted. Much has been written as to how the Egyptians might have aligned their monuments with such high precision, but the question that has always remained unanswered is why did the ancients put so much emphasis on astronomical alignments? And what could be the function, practical or symbolic, behind these mysterious alignments?

The Jesus Dynasty
The Jesus Dynasty
Tabor Professor James Tabor has studied the earliest surviving documents of Christianity for more than thirty years and has participated in important archeological excavations in Israel. Drawing on this background, Tabor reconstructs for us the movement that sought the spiritual, social, and political redemption of the Jews, a movement led by one family. The Jesus Dynasty offers an alternative version of Christian origins, one that takes us closer than ever to Jesus and his family and followers. The story is surprising and controversial, but exciting as only a long-lost history can be when it is at last recovered. This is a book that will change our understanding of one of the most crucial moments in history.

The Jesus Tomb: Is It Fact or Fiction? Scholars Chime In
Sausa On February 2007, James Cameron, the Academy Award-winning director for Titanic, announced his team has found the missing tomb of Jesus Christ; however, they bypassed academic review. In The Jesus Tomb: Is It Fact or Fiction? Scholars Chime In, Don Sausa reviews Cameron's claims through biblical, historic, and scientific analysis. By reviewing the evidence and interviewing biblical scholars, archaeologists, and DNA experts, Sausa answers the most important question about this discovery -- is it fact or fiction?

The Jesus Family Tomb
Jacobovici Although fiercely debated around the globe, this is a story destined to grab international headlines and raise fundamental questions about the historical Jesus. Readers are taken on a remarkable journey: from telling statistical analysis, to a time-bending trip across two millennia, and an investigation of the patinas and DNA of the tombs that makes an episode of CSI look mundane. The Jesus Family Tomb arrives at an extraordinary answer to an ancient mystery.

Poussin and France
Poussin and France
Olson In this original exploration of Poussin's paintings, their production, and their reception, Dr. Todd P. Olson argues Nicolas Poussin's (1594-1665) deep engagement with cultural and political transformations occurring in France during Poussins "exile" in Rome. Dr. Olson's fresh insights reveal the importance of this painter's work to a learned and powerful French constituency at a critical moment in French history and demonstrate that Poussin's famously timeless style was far more responsive to historical contingencies than has been previously recognized.

Jung Stripped Bare: By His Biographers, Even
Jung Stripped Bare: By His Biographers, Even
Shamdasani This small but deadly book might have been titled "Jung strips bare his biographers" for in it, historian of psychology Sonu Shamdasani takes Jung's own words, meticulously researched and documented, and uses them to expose the factual inaccuracy of nearly every biography of Jung ever written. It's a challenging book because as each fabrication is unearthed we get closer to the facts about Jung but further from his truth. Its a shame Shamdasani doesn't go on to explore why Jung the man generates so many unsupportable stories, but speculation isn't Shamdasani's style. He prefers to use scholarship as a deadly weapon, which he does with devastating precision, leaving behind a staggering body count of reputations. If you have read a biography of Jung, read Shamdasani and find out how little you really know, as I have.

Equinox
Equinox
White Author Michael White's new bestseller EQUINOX is his first novel. It caused a sensation at the 2005 Frankfurt book fair and was sold on a partial manuscript by Michael's agent Carole Blake at Blake Friedmann in London. It will appear in 25 languages between autumn 2006 and summer 2007.
Michael White: "With Equinox I tried to bring in lots of different threads. There are two story lines. One is set in the present day which is a relatively conventional crime mystery, and then it switches back into the 17'Th century and involves Isaac Newton who is actually involved in an occult group which is also involved in the present day. Equinox is a cross between the X-files and Inspector Morse, a bit like a Scully and Mulder mystery set in Oxford."

Our Spiritual Crisis
Our Spiritual Crisis: Recovering Human Wisdom in a Time of Violence
Nagler Professor Michael Nagler contends that many of the social, cultural, and even economic problems now faced by American society today are direct results of an overemphasis on material consumption, which in turn reflects spiritual poverty. He advocates a return to the ancient Eastern spiritual view that consciousness is fundamental, that it is the basic stuff of the universe, and matter and energy merely ephemeral forms or appearances.

Religion and Magic in Ancient Egypt
David Organized chronolgically, this work is an overview of ancient Egyptian religion, covering the period from 5000 BC to the 4th century AD. Professor Rosalie David's book acts as an introduction to the subject, inviting the reader to enter a world of half human/half animal gods, death rituals, the afterlife and mummification, pyramids, magic and medicine.
